Happy to join the thread and get involved. No experience with 6mm or what to collect as Waterloo was a bit before my time lol. I like the bigger battles with the historical units so if you need another player or if there's a force not covered let me know.

This is a nice touch
The cards for leaders' characteristics seemed to work well. We found that most of the time the characteristics didn't have much influence on play, though just occasionally they made a critical moment more ... interesting! That's as it should be. Having the cards laid out made it easier to remember which commanders had these special rules. It also brought a more personal touch to the game: the officers had both names and portraits

Was there a plan for when a game might happen (June I guess!) so I can plan whether I can wait to buy at salute or whether I need to order sooner...

Was there a plan for when a game might happen (June I guess!) so I can plan whether I can wait to buy at salute or whether I need to order sooner... Matey, you can buy when ever you like, or choose not to buy if yuo like. If you want to wait till salute and get a discount etc or if you want to jump in now is up to the person. The naps project is an ongoing thing collect/research/paint etc as you like. Wemay be doing some games before june just to try new rules, as i think we have enough stuff to proxy armies and get a feel for each ruleset we try. So, anyhting goes , so to speak

That's cool. If you'd said that you were planning on a series of bits well in advance I'd have made an effort to get some sooner!

Chaz, why you stick in dots on bases ?

Chaz, why you stick in dots on bases ? in the rules -- you know but fat book holding up the corner of your wonky fridge. They're there to denote the troop quality and type of skirmish screen that, that battalion has. Of course they are other ways of recording this but as quality changes over time [French were poor in 1807] and different doctrines for the light troops were employed at different times it is an easy way of keeping track of things. in time I will have the other 60 x 30 base set up with the skirmishes rather than a dot. Not certain how best to denote troop quality at the moment -- but it may not be such an issue , as in Ancient gaming I tended to know what was what.

The example in the book seemed clear at the time of reading, think of it like a board game where you group your counters together with the ones making contact doing the fighting the others in base 2 base contact with them provide support bonuses. Would love to be involved but I'm in either Italy or Greece discussing with SteveD what the Romans did for us - I mean playing Fields of glory

I have also got out the bits of 6mm i have to sort them out and start basing them

It is a beautiful model I have recently just painted my own, perfectsixps.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/1300-hougoumont-by-leven-miniatures.html?m=1 I made a few mistakes like sticking to to base before painting! Won't be doing that again. I got some a4 ply bases from eBay about £4 for 5 of them, also just found out total battle miniatures are bringing out the full 100 day building range so naps scenary will be in a good state, something it has been lacking for many years, enjoy your hougoumont project. oh that looks beautiful ! the red brick work is what i have trouble doing, it either turns out orange or pink, same for red roofs, still havnt got them right I have been using MDF for bases, but have just orderedsome 3mm ply. Do you seal your ply/MDF bases ? i was thinking of spray undercoating beofre starting anything on them

I haven't sealed the underside yet, I was going to varnish coat I did undercoat in black primer I don't use sprays as my kids would get hold of them!, red brick is sienna brown coat then an uneven black wash, Cavarly brown drybrushing some red and orange drybrushing but not loads, then 3 flesh shades of drybrushing I used tallern flesh, dwarf flesh, elf flesh, then a tiny white drysrush, roofs are almost the same dark red, black wash, a good mid red drybrushing , then orange , then flesh , then white. It is a lot quicker then it sounds and worked out ok.

Truly lovely. I tend to make the mistake of too even a drybrush.
Flesh is the magic colour for painting wood and building materials.
And grey. And bone. Not colours you naturally think of for highlighting but make all the difference to scenery.
