me have some Austrians by H & R Cool, as said it is a long term thing ( i mean loooong), Doesnt matter the figure manufacturer, just that you got some is good start. Anyparticular battle you interested in ? or just any ? Doesnt matter if the Autrians arre pre 1809 etc , as long as they are painted white

Everyone knows I like painting in white -- well unless they're Hungarians when I paint the trousers blue instead. Did sell some on flea-bay would be ironic if I start collecting them again.
Happy to be involved and I don't think I have played you and Ben at anything, so an occasional change of opponent would be good.
I don't know the rules you are referring to -- does that mean more pocket money spent, or are they free downloads?
PS I also have some British and French and these have more colours on them - but tried to base for Bruce Quarry rules from thirty plus years ago. Those singles were a real pain.

There are two different Polemos rule sets -- so where were you thinking of starting?

The polemos rules are the same book, ones in the front and ones in the back These are the rules ive just ordered today www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=130&page=1and the ones i ordered comes with the cards If your figures are based to a different system i doesnt matter, may be they can be lightly mounted on sabotbases instead of rebasing, but i should have enough stuff to try out rules to see wich one work for us

My Dear Nemesis

let me know when in December or January you intend to do this and I will keep that date free and even look at the free on-line stuff before hand.

Basing
It's been that long ago that they're either in cubits or inches. From the days when the frontage was for a single figure with a scale of 1 model = 33 men and they would all need to be rebased anyway.
More importantly do you have a date I can block out.

Both sets of rules are in BW (base widths)
Maurice seems to like 40mm frontage by 30mm and polemus 60mm wide by 30mm deep for infantry and cavalry units or for the grand battle 60mm by 60 mm.
So, oh master of the soap box what basing do you recommend as a 'club' standard. After all you will have to squeeze the fatter Baccus / Alders onto them.
I think Warmaster is 40mm frontage so would it make sense to start with that?

Well what you can buy on ebay are all 60x30, and trawling through threads on TMp and such , the most common mentioned size of base is the 60x30. I bought a load painted from the states and they are all 60x30. Polemos rules use 60x30, 60x60 is then two bases put together. If i was going to use warmaster rules i would use one polemos base =3warmaster bases, and just have markeres to denote how many bases are left. I havent received the Maurice rules yet btu i think they are 60x60, or two bases of 60x30 together so the polemos basing would work for theserules too. Oh and i ve just sent 6kg of 6mm to get painted and they are basing them on 60x30, so im kinda going the 60x30 base size for cavalry and infantry But if yuor are based on smaller size bases and yuo want to keep them like that, would they fit on a 60x30 if you placed them on a blank ?

Ancients has rules that people can get hold of, so the warmaster 40x20 for ancients and medieval. Napoleonic rules and acw rules that are being written now to readily available to people seem to favourthe 60x30 basing ( or multiples there off), polemos, maurice fro example ( only cos they are the rules that ihave just bought)
The only thing we need to decide on at the moment, is the battle/period of the napoleonic wars that we are interested in for research /OOBs , i think however the way figures are based can be got round as we are not in a tournament setting.
The rules can be test on a club night ( when ever) to see which ones we like, or which ones are general accepted.

Cool, didnt think about the anniversary, may be a good one to do. At present i have absolutly no british and only a small prussian. Do you have any preference of rule set? Do you have OOBs for both sides of conflict ?

Theres a nice La Haye Saint here. www.levenminiatures.co.uk/napoleonic.htmLook quite a nice product, ill prolly pick one up. What size battle do you want to go for? a 1/3 or the whole thing? or other size. Not sure what size table we would need though

Just readonline that Polemos napoleonic has the two setsof rules in one book, One ruleset is one base to a battelion. The other ruleset ( for larger battles) is one base toa brigade. Im still waiting for the sam mustafa Maurice rules to turn up, i bought the cards for the maurice rules at the same time, and apparently you only need one set of cards, NOT one for each side

The Maurice rules have just turned up, says they are suitable for 2-4 players on a 4x6 8x5 and playablein 2-3 hours,so definately doable at a club evening. Havnt had a chance to see how they play yet. but they do say , minimal amount of charts, or paperwork. we shall see

Who needs a book when you have the infernal net - a detailed orbat at your finger tips - but I still prefer looking it up in my books en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_battle_of_the_Waterloo_Campaignlinkmaybe Rory could be commissioned to make all the forces out of hair curlers? So Nemesis - has you painter managed to spray those Austrians red yet?

Yh interweb is ok, but i too prefer books Nah, the painter is painting them as Austrians , i could always just use them as british in Summer dress Ill get some british with one of the fleabay painter/sellers, but not until i have received my brunswickers that i am still waiting for (9 months later) On another note, i have just ordered the La Haye siant , and mont st jean models from leven miniatures
