Okay folks, a day or so ago a little project came to my attention called Mission: Katharsis. It's by a company called Hi Tech Miniatures. Now I've been aware of that particular company for some time. They make rather large models that look suspiciously like Space Marines (and when I say suspiciously I mean that they even bear rather close likeness to certain chapter designs and markings).
These fine folks have taken it upon themselves to design a board game set on a big floating space ship. You know, the kind of hulking wreck that isn't going anywhere soon. The heavily armoured space warriors have been sent to investigate why the floating wreck has not responded to communications but they all blatantly suspect that it's a trap. Their job is to go in there and kill everything that they find.
Now if, like me, this is starting to sound familiar then rest assured that this really does look like a Space Hulk clone. That being said there are some positive sides to this. The game is already made. The miniatures already exist (they've been selling them for the last 3 or 4 years now). The enemies are represented by cards rather than miniatures. I can imagine why they wouldn't want to make a load of chaos genestealer mutant models for fear of bringing down a chapterhouse lawsuit on their heads.
So what do they need the money for? They claim that they need it to cover the costs of mass production (& I suspect marketting too). Some of us already have Space Hulk and it's a great game. By the looks of it this game is good to go, the board is ready, cards are ready, figures are ready.... the stretch goals offer some more space marine style models and some miniatures to represent the "boss monsters" (all of which also come from their back catalogue) so I'm reckoning it's a relatively low risk investment if you wish to back it.
They do seem to be based in this country* so there's no worry about fiddling around with foreign currencies and import duties although £12.50 post & package does seem like a bit much.
Feel free to go and take a look
Not quite sure it's my style myself.
* All the prices on their website are in Euros 'though so I suspect they might be another small Eastern European or Spanish company using a UK address to start a kickstarter project. Bridgewater's kind of specific 'though. Most of them just claim to be in London.
