From the Naval Wargames Society Yahoo Group: An early note to let you know that the 2014 Naval Wargames Show will be held
on 21/22nd June at the Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower in Gosport,
Hampshire. Planning is at an early stage but I think its safe to say that
Sails of Glory will be on the agenda, as it was in 2013
All welcome, we are probably having the hall left open for us on Saturday
night so players attending for both days can sleep over, and its free to
attend the show and the museum cafe (although you would need to pay the
normal admission charge if you wanted to tour the museum itself)
A small show, more like a get-together for a few memeber of the NSW up and down the country. 2012 had a couple of good games. A bit of gunboat diplomacy with the RN shore party, and a damage control simulation based on HMS Belfast's DC map. Very tense, but then I've done it for real a few times and for exercise countless times! 2013 had the Sails of Glory on demo, which was well received as a good starter game for the Age of Sail period. I only went on the Sunday, so missed the Shipwreck game on the Saturday Both years had ample Nappy, WW1 and WW2 stuff going on. Cons: Very small event. No traders, just gaming Pros: Very friendly, set in the Museum (you have to pay, but parking is free). It's about an hour down the road from St Leonards. Cracking view across the water of today's modern Royal Navy (both ships). If you get bored I'll give you a tour of the dockyard! Dave W

It's nearly here, and apparently there's a few trade stands this year. I'm going to make an effort to go both days this year, but then it's only 20 minutes down the road for me!

I'm still working on a pass
but Smaug (the old night-scather in Beowulf: great age; winged, fiery, and reptilian form)
always wants the last word

...Top speed of Micra around 50 - 60 [down hill]... Get a pass for Saturday too. Then, when you set off on Saturday, you'll arrive on time for Sunday!!!!

the weekend was put on by Naval wargames society check them out I popped in on Sunday and thought as it is the week after fathers day I've take my father along as he read a lot of Alexander Kent / Douglas Reaman books.. So I had a day of super grey car driving, sensors telling us where the rumble strips are or that there is a car in the lane he is pulling out into. Oh and I don't go over 6- in my 3 month old car. Dave did not tell me that I could have rocked up to play without paying museum admission - I found out that my year long ticket did not cover this museum because I brought it before 1st April so that be £18 sir. Feed and water dad. Go to wargames room whilst letting him explore museum. In the hall are a few games and settle down to play against AD in a WW1 cat and mouse game in the Congo. But did like the look of the ACW game using Sail and Steam with 1/1200 Langton's. There was also a 15C game [Elizabethans bashing the French], Dreadnought era game and something complicated requiring laptops and overhead projectors for Trafalgar. I've seen the museum can we eat. OK dear stranger could you take over for me. Go off feed dad, agree to tour the museum - takes all of 20 minutes - then he has got his car lights on ready to go home at 2pm. Bleep - mined the rumble strip.......bleep car in outside lane slam on the brakes i was nearly doing 60 Next year I'm going alone

You missed a rather excellent game of Roman SAGA yesterday: rioting mobs of the great unwashed trying to secure a grain store and an elephant( ). Bread and circuses don't you know. The naval connection? The rioting was in the docks and Pompey was due to pitch up to restore order in a rather splendid Roman galley on turn 8... Oh, and I won the game of cat & mouse, courtesy of some spotter planes and 3 monitors and a cruiser turning up late in the game to give the good news to the Germans. Next year let the train take the strain!
