Bases, bases he heard bases
Rulebook says 30 x 30mm but that means the MBT gun barrel over hangs. So I'm thinking of 30 x 30 for all except the MBT's which can go on 30 x 40mm bases - or 30 x 35mm if I make my own. Are you all agreeable to this before I commit craft knife to cardboard.
Looks like my Hinds are missing the bits and if really needed may have to buy some new ones.

The rules state base should be "about an inch (25mm)" I use 1" square bases for mine. As everyone knows, inches are the only true measurement of ground scale/distance in wargaming. Millimetres are for use by engineers and Europeans! The important thing is: It doesn't matter what size your bases are, as long as they are square (for working out when you have been flanked). As you measure from base to base, incoming fire will be the same range as outgoing fire!!! DW

As the Swedes use the same vehicle for both their Spotters and APCs, I will be putting the Spotters on 25mm circles, so that I can tell them apart during the game. Must say I rather like this idea - it keeps it clear what is performing what role on the battlefield but my spotters have got some Gaz jeeps.

Must say I rather like this idea - it keeps it clear what is performing what role on the battlefield but my spotters have got some Gaz jeeps. Don't forget you need to be able to differentiate not only what a vehicle is (Jeep, Jeep with brigade spotter, jeep with battalion spotter, jeep with brigade HQ etc - all the same jeep model) but also you need to somehow identify the unit in the chain of command. This is VERY important for morale failures, especially when you get a morale failure at company level, which then rolls up the battalion it is part of, then the brigade the failing battalion is part of decides to bugger off too! My previous comment about square bases to identify when you have been outflanked (and suffer the appropriate penalties) still stands. I wouldn't get too hung up on identifying them. In practice, it is very easy to identify a spotter/HQ unit. It's the only poor sod on it's own. HQ/spotter units activate individually, so are not normally part of a company stand (normally four-ish models). The HQ units get left to the rear as destroying them gives you a significant bonus on your morale attack against your enemy (morale is treated as an attack in TW). Spotter units get pushed to the front to avoid range penalties when calling in artillery/air strikes. Hope this helps. DW

Or you could put aerials on the command vehicles and paint the eyes of the spotters!!!

I put 4 figures on a 1" square base for normal squaddies. Specialists, like command teams, SAMs, Snipers, ATGW teams etc, I just put the appropriate figure plus a 'normal' squaddie so it doesn't look too lonely... Again, as long as you can identify it and its chain of command, it doesn't matter too much what you do!
