Hey Dave, have you seen the cheeky "we did it first" photo Mantic put up of their angels in plate armour with big weapons? Link.

I think Mantic definitely would be able to bag themselves some of GW's jaded fans if the quality of their models for kings of war wasn't so totally and utterly crap

I'm inclined. However looking at their new rules would it be too early to call it the Age Of Smegma?

Wow. Just wow.
A unit that is engaged in melee combat can still shoot at anything it wants in the shooting phase including the unit it's in melee with. That's just a really massive stupid rules hole right there. There are no penalties for shooting into combat but there's also nothing to prevent you from shooting out of combat either.
This really isn't a grown up wargame. One for the kiddies.

*cough cough * Legolas *cough cough* Look like good cinema style Heroes game in my opinion. Not old warhammer but if this had come out from a new company we wouldn't be having this thread. Everyone moaned about the rules being too complex now they are too simple. GW wouldn't release stuff quick enough now it's too quick. They are giving what the community has whinged for. They make gorgeous models. I'm inclined to give the rules a go before you slate them
And as to shooting I think you'll find you can only shoot or combat to a max of your attacks and can only target one unit so you can ignore those grunts in combat but if you do they will beat you up. You don't strike back...

A lot of people on the interwebs getting bent out of shape about the scale. Doesn't anyone remember when it was Warhammer Fantasy skirmishing in 1st edition? I think they may be going back to their roots...

If one were cynical they might get kids into skirmish the given 18 months release a massed ranks version.
It reminds me of the fight in the scorpion king at the beginning where looks of people charge at each other, then there's a mess of people not lovely lines...

From your previous posts we know you dont like it, the rules, the models etc etc etc etc But please if you have anything "interesting" to add.....................

Until their final synopsis I was wondering how different that is to a "normal" fantasy game. I have to say that whilst I've defended I've been reserved but this makes me want to try it. I do wonder what ranks will give the game though? Strength in numbers I suppose and s reserve...

If it is just a rule book to buy in - I could find another use for all the LoTR figures

You don't have to play the new rules! We used to make up our own and use whatever figures we could find! There is no game police, play how you like,GW is a model company not a rules company they openly say it, they want your money not your agreement as to how rules work. People who like rules don't buy figures, they are called role players. The rule of cool is the biggest part for many in the hobby, new players need to cut their teeth on something easy to pick up, blame modern society blame education blame anything. No matter what the internet says GW doesn't care as long as you still buy stuff!

Ps it's a free rule book, not that you can call 4 pages a book, but free! From GW!

And it has free Army Books too! From GW! DW This is pretty rare. I do like the fact that dwarf players get actual rules bonuses for complaining about how things were better in the old days when we weren't allowed to measure distances and had to just know them with our minds. How goblins weren't as tough back when we were younger or how, in previous editions, we seemed to have to put a lot more thought into the game. It also encourages the keeping of a book of grudges as facing the same opponents again later on grants serious tangible benefits in future battles. This is starting to feel a bit like Confrontation with it's rules about standing on one leg holding a 2" toucan nut over your head and shouting something for a massive rules benefit if you were a goblin player or the original version of Hell Dorado where rules disagreements were settled by "gentle" slap fights. I haven't noticed if any of the other armies get bonuses for roleplaying yet but it might be fun going through their warscrolls on the lookout for more characterful stuff like this.

I get the impression that two mates will get more out of this game than a tournament organiser...

I prefer the Weed Killer rules, where melee is decided by who can shout the longest/loudest while both participants square off sumo wrestler style... DW
