I bumped into a guy carrying a army painter plastic bag at Kinson library - we both work there but in different departments. He some times plays SAGA at Entoyment and took part in their recent doubles tournament. That's enough intro, but he told me that when you play there the player who does not start gets 3 SAGA dice so that there is something on the battle board at the beginning of the game -- he did not say if you roll them for abilities or just placed them into your combat pool. Does anyone know if this is: - a local house rule
- something that is done in tournaments
- a carry over from the Crescent and the Cross rule book
If it is a 'local' house rule how do you feel about using it at the club?

When Duncan played Stu last week he suggested it I think but I'm at a loss. Sounds reasonable though as a club rule if people are happy with it

Hi Guys - At Entoyment we use this - I had to admit I thought it was an FAQ rule - when I get a moment I will see if I can find it. You roll three dice and get to put them on your board - so its not a case of choosing three dice. If your playing Normans with the I can double the range of my bows it quite handy to have some anti shooting buffs (or just three dice in the combat pool that can be extra defence dice). I think the key thing here - is if you are going to use this rule both players have to agree it before any you roll to see who goes first.
Duncan.

As I play Norman's I know the pain you can put on other players from the first turn. So agree before rolling to go first. I wouldn't mind trying it to see how it plays.

Hi guys - I've found the optional rule for those who are interested. Its on p26 of the Ravens shadow supplement. Hope this helps. Duncan.

I played a game with Doug and rather enjoyed having 3 dice to start - it meant that I wasn't just a passive observer for the first turn. It also meant that Doug knew he couldn't operate with complete impunity (well, he did, but that was due to me being crap than the dice).
Once I've turned my steely gaze back to Saga, I think I'll be using it (with opponent consent).

Some of you may know the aforementioned Doug as Duncan, since that was the name he was born with.
I, however, follow a different path.
The path of forgetting people's names.
Sorry Duncs!
This is Steve, signing out.

Apologies - I admit I have a real issue with peoples names - it is not deliberate and believe me I'd love to be able to get it right. I am going to hide behind the excuse that I am both dyslexic and dyspraxic, which could account for it - or more likely I am just pants at remembering names. Please please do correct me if/when I get your name wrong. If you feel like it I find that punching me every time I get it wrong does help me learn!

I've survived so far in life with the term "mate" as soon as I get unsure.
Also, in regards to the 3 dice pool for second player, I've tried it and loved the additional gameplay it adds.
