Balgin has his eye on some 'lost' Vikings. I've spent some money on the myths and legends of Hinduism to research a new faction for Hell Dorado then wham, bang Whilst at the Eden Project this week in the Mediterranean biome there it was The Rites of Dionysus A complete self contained orgy of fun loving cannibalistic drunken women and animals bringing joy and party within the gates of Hell. Forget your goals we're to accept you as sacrifices to our gods party on dude

Oh I was going to start by taking a lot of the existing profiles (such as the Dibukim for berserkers) and try a few games. After that I'll tweak a bit. I was waiting for the crusader crossbows to have a traditional ranged weapon to base bows off because I have a few (2 or 3) really beautiful viking archer models. I'm thinking the bows will either have an extra inch of range on the crossbow or an extra range increment (or both), no reload time, no armour penetration and a lower damage table. Before the templar squires all the ranged weapons in the game were gunpowder weapons or hurled things (war discs, slings, javelins etc). I'm thinking more Vinland Lost Colony & Icelandic Sagas than mythical beasts for the vikings although I'll certainly have fun seeing what outrageous exaggerations I can take from the sagas (such as the vomiting scene from Egil's Saga) to base abilities on. I will avoid adding unique named gods and monsters (Fenrir, Jormungandr, Odin, Thor, Loki etc). Those belong in mythology. Named individuals from History (Jarl Sigmund the Strong who died from an infected wound caused by the severed head of an enemy that he had taken as a trophy rubbing it's teeth against his leg so much that it caused a wound that became infected) are all fair game 'though. Ivar the Boneless might certainly make for an interesting officer. Since the viking concept of Hel is that of a very cold place I might be tempted to give them rules based on the kind of battlefield being played on. Perhaps they could have the Brave state when not on a cold battlefield but become filled with superstitious fear when battling in the icy wastes. However, since the choice of battlefield is currently only by mutual agreement this could be too abusable. Perhaps they'd have to have an officer who's special rules would ensure that they always played on a cold field (bringing the winter with them). Or one who ensures they never fight on wintry tables. I'd definitely want to see if I could convert a good Gunnar Haumundarsson figure. it's incredibly hard to find a viking miniature who's both simultaneously wielding a Dane Axe The Atgeir[/url] and a sword in the other hand. I know Gripping Beast do a Gunnar Haumundersson miniature but he's wielding a spear and sword instead of the legendary magic axe. Of course he'd have to have some "Slow to Anger" rule. Kind of the opposite of Cumbersome. His magic axe would obviously make him ignore Discretion (& possibly something similar as well). He's a great character Gunnar, practically a pacifist. Only reluctantly does he ever enter into a fight (because he knows he's going to kill the other person). Most of the miniatures I'm actually considering using are the Dark Sword Wildings (Song of Ice & Fire) miniatures as they actually do make quite convincing vikings. Full garments and not a horned helm in sight. They're also the right size & proportions to fit in well with other Hell Dorado humans. I might take a size comparison photo some time soon. Stuff in bold is links because otherwise you can't tell without mousing over it or something.[/i]
