Gents, As promised here, I am up for running a small Tankwreck campaign and am starting this thread to gauge interest in a small campaign for Tankwreck. I have been playing a couple of PC games set in WWIII, Wargame: European Escalation and Wargame: Airland Battle. Airland battle has a nice, simple campaign system that could easily be lifted from it to provide us with the mechanics to play a small campaign in a Risk-like fashion, pushing battlegroups around territories (not Terror Tories) to generate battles to be fought on a club night. We can run the campaign via the wonders of email/interwebs (or a piece of string and two baked bean tins for Tim & Simon) and arrange games between opponents to suit. Geographic location and time period would be dependant on what we already own/are willing to buy, so please indicate what you can bring to a club night. To get the ball rolling, I own the following forces: British (1990+) Israeli (1990+) Soviet (Cold War) West German (Cold War) So Gents, what say you? DW

I have mostly Soviet cold war (my regular playing partner of the time brought the allied stuff), far too many BMP 1's to be good for you so I'm given some to Hal but that should still leave a hundred or so.
I did buy other stuff too - even a Hercules / C-130 but over the years the Hinds have taken a bashing and not just from my rapier AA batteries.
Fortunately there is plenty of opportunity for a REME field painting unit to turn up and get the camo right.
However I'm not as blessed with 6mm scenery as I would like and this is where I would rather invest a few quid of my monthly pocket money. I assume that £20 - £30 should cover my wants and will need to do a little modeling, pity I had lots of polystyrene hills [5mm sheet cut into various shapes] which got turned out during a fairly recent tidy up. So rather than everyone having different bits that don't blend together is there some consensus of which we all should have / use / get?
I suppose that in the future the club could look into having some core bits stored in the bomb proof shelter as lately there has been some 6 - 10mm being played but don't want the club funds seen as an extension of my personal expenditure.

Chaz, Look at GHQ's site for some freebie paper scenery. I've mostly got Middle Eastern stuff as that's where all the wars have been fought recently. My Brits are base coated ready for their desert camo scheme (sand underneath, sand on top!), and I don't think my Israelis will be venturing too close to Europe anytime soon. That just leave my West Germans. Anyone know where I can get a can of green paint? All I seem to have is desert yellow... DW *EDIT* Forgot about my Ebay Ruskies. All painted green, so they can be Warsaw Pact one week and Arab the next. Contrary to popular belief, some Arab countries DO use green paint!

So, after last night's fireside chat (16th Dec), we can surmise that between us we can muster a shed-load of Soviets, some Brits, Yanks, Arabs dressed as Soviets, Soviets dressed as Arabs, some West Germans, modern Israelis and some madman is collecting Swedes. Did I miss anyone out?
Looking at what we can muster so far, it looks like any campaign will be a typical Cold War Gone Hot scenario set anywhere between 1980-2000-ish.
I'll look at putting together some draft campaign ideas from the Wargame: Airland Battle (WALB) game over the Crimbo period and post them up here for perusal. The gist of the WALB scenarios involves a very tiny amount of resources (in the form of Political Points - gathered from owning territories) and using them to buy battlegroups and special missions (SF raids, bombing raids, NGS, chemical weapons, nukes (!!!)) all of which affect a battlegroup's morale and initiative rather than their force level. If people want that sort of depth, I'm happy to try and find some easy way to include it.
Or we can just use the basic 'Risk board' movement/encounter/battle system WALB uses as is. I prefer the first option, but am happy to go with the flow.
Tankwreck doesn't have a points system, so we can either lift the points values from a system like GHQ's Micro-Armour series, or use the stock battlegroups in the back of the TW rule book. Again, I prefer the first (points) option as this could give us a larger degree of flexibility in fielding stuff we already have without the need the need to buy any more kit.
Over to you, chaps!

However you want to run the campaign is good for me, but the first option does sound more interesting. (As long as there is not too much book keeping.) The book keeping will be done by me, so if it's too much, I've only got myself to blame. Don't worry, I am a life time subscriber to the KISS principle... I agree that some sort of points system is the way to go. For the campaign each side should start with roughly the same number of points. This of course doesn't mean that each engagement has to be balanced ! Ideally, all would start with the same points, with equal amounts of battlegroups on each side, but this can be worked out later (perhaps people can run a couple of battelgroups to even up the starting sides?). As you say, each engagement may not be equal, that's the beauty of a campaign!! Possibly for some of the scenarios, allowing each side to "bid" for how few points they need to complete it. i.e. more victory points/resources for completing certain tasks with fewer troops ? This idea I really like! Although I prefer to 'name that tune in...' rather than bid! WLAB uses an 'Initiative Level' and 'Morale Level' for each battlegroup. Initiative level determines how much of your battlegroup you can put down at the start of the battle, morale determines how much of it must be destroyed/routed by your opponent for him to win. So a high initiative, low morale group would get lots of toys on the table, but only have to take a few losses to run away. A low initiative, high morale group wouldn't get much on the table, but it would stay and fight all day... Of course, this would need some tweaking to bring it from the PC game to the wargame table, but I don't think it would be too hard. DW

Hal will be happy - found a green tool box with lots of soviet armour in a dark corner of a deep recess and a shoe box with more toys - including some British stuff. I think I have even got an S tank or IKV tucked away in there to. Also found thin polystyrene hills and a few buildings plus a bag of lichen for forests.
Not yet found the modern infantry but my WW2 brits could stand in - just have to touch up the eyes.
I will have to see what I have got and work out how I'm going to store it once organised so that I can bring the required forces along on club night. I hope I don't have to spend hours straightening out gun barrels, because that is what is most likely to force me to buy some more bits and bobs.
Next challenge - where did I put my copy of the rules..............................
Then get to a model shop and buy an aerosol of cold war soviet green.
Once I've stopped working weekends I really must spend some tidy up time in the 'man cave'
If anyone has some empty chocolate boxes [like Thornton's classic] from crimbo I could use the thinner ones to store this lot. I have 2 coming once Smaug has devoured the contents.

And now we have a second front opening on the Finnish border!!! second front just needs the pennants on the aerials changed on my soviet stuff. updated the table above with some more bits I have found. still got a good number of turretless AFV's but getting there and the soviets are almost at 2 full motor rifle regiments, one can be flipped to be tank if required, hope that helps the campaign troll command vehicles will be receiving aerials [3amp fuse wire], back of bases for unit colour markings and changing the colour of the contact lenses for the spotters
