What paints do you use in your airbrush and what setup are you using? I have cheap generic Chinese parts on a 3litre tank I think as-185? Off everything airbrush in Poole but sourced off the eBay..
I'm told by my friends who are a bit more airpro that I need to drop £100 on a brush if I want the results to be any good but I think the paint is the key first... (I am the equivalent of enamels and toy shop paint brushes)

I have a similar comp but with the tank as it is supposed to help keep the flow more constant.
Are you thinning with water or a medium? I've got some Vallejo air to try but haven't had chance yet...

i usually thin the GW with water and the tamiya with their thinning medium. the tank is a huge help.... before i burnt the last motor out i had a tank on that compressor

Before this one I had an industrial compressor. It was large loud and stuttery.
The forgeworld guy who specialises in airbrushing is a friend of a friend and reckons you can achieve the same result with any setup but better brush and a thinner paint means you can spray at a lower pressure (around 22 psi) and that with his home setup he can airbrush detail to about font 8 thickness lines... (But he's just a pro - and a git.) I settle for minimal spattering! If I can get a flat colour with no bleeding or burning I feel satisfied...
