Anyone heard of this one? Seems to be a 40k-esq future skirmish/wargame in 28mm. Price for the starter box looks reasonable - only £30 for the rules, plus 80 miniatures (4 squads of 10 for either faction including sargeants and suport troopers).
The models look so cool I'm tempted to get them and use them in my long awaited Imperial Guard Army, but just wanted to see if anyone knew if the game itself was any good?
There's millions of add-ons and factions, so can immagine that it could get expensive, though still nowhere as bad as GW prices.
Thoughs and opinions would be spanky.
Need to see if getting another game is worth possibly driving the wife out for good (though I've already baggsied her dressing room as a workshop. Gotta plan ahead).
Cheers Stubert

Can't say I've ever heard of it but some of their factions look pretty sweet. I really like the look of the Mishima, Brotherhood and Bauhaus factions.

Well, since the learned members of this forum have not ruled against it, I shall be aquiring the starter box as soon as I'm paid, and will be looking to rope some poor sap into a few tester games

I've currently got the last Monday ofFebruary free if you are available? It'll be a nice change of pace and a well needed break from Malifaux (Too much of a good thing right?)

You certaily seem to have started something! Did you expect such a huge response? re: Warzone. Well up for cracking open a new game. However, I'm Necromunding with Raph on the 23rd of Feb. Next Monday I've got looks like the 16th March! I got nothing booked for 9th Feb, but looks like you have, dammit. Of course, don't mind organising something outside of Wessex Wyverns, depending on where the hell you live, or if you want to travel to me, or you have a handy mate who lives in between areas that we can bully into letting use his place. May not be practical though.

Nope! I wasn't expecting this kind of response. I was half expecting it to be me and maybe, if I was lucky, 4 or 5 others. It's gone a bit crazy how many people have gotten into Malifaux because of little ol' me.
I'm definitely keen to see what this game is like. The miniatures are fantastic. I happen to live in Poole at the moment so either way somebody will be travelling a far way. We can perhaps discuss it in more depth on Monday. I'm running a game rather than playing so I'll have some spare time to wonder and mingle.

Me and Tony are doing a Battletech/RPG crossover with Matt, but I think we're 2/3 of the way through Matt's scenario, so should have time to sort something after.

UPDATE: it wasn't very clear, but it looks like the boxed set I've seen for 2nd edition is actually an old edition. The newest (3rd I believe) now goes by the name Warzone Resurrection. A lot of the miniatures have been redesigned, along with the acompanying price tag. Purchasing for this edition seems similar to Malifaux - there's no 'main box', you just buy the rule book (about £25) and a starter set of your faction (about £30, but of course you'll be spending much more to buy your army). Check out more here - prodosgames.comStrangely, a company called Prince August appears to have bought the rights to the 2nd Edition, and still produces all of the minis, along with the original boxed game (which is the £30 with 80 miniatures that I came across. See link below if you want a peak). shop.princeaugust.ie/warzone-mutant-chronicles-wargame/I think I'll buy 2nd edition anyway, as the models are still awesome and so cheap, and then decide if it's worth going all out for the newest, depending on the differences (I have put a cheaky offer in on one on ebay, on the off chance).

I've seen it and the new stuff they were bringing out did look nice but I resisted as I have too many things on the open list... However, I do like to go to the wargames shows. Conception (role playing so "not a real show" on my calendar aside) the next one is Abingdon www.abingdonwargames.org.uk/overlord/2015And prodos will be there. Whilst I've never chatted to them I've seen the talk in depth about what they were doing, the plans, the new releases, etc etc but tbh I was rummaging in boxes under stalls so I didn't pay much attention! If you want to speak to them it's a nice show (if you don't mind the drive) I'll be going but already have seats bagsied...

Bought the newest rule book and the 80 miniatures from the 2nd edition. Naturally, after I bought it, I discovered that it has the rules/army lists for all factions except the one I want - Imperial. Bastards.

My 'cheap' new skirmish game is spiraling. Looks like I've discovered it on the cusp of a major relaunch. The models look much better (the few that have been released), and the reviews claim that the newest edition streamlines a good but clunky combat system, but there is surprising lack of info on the game.
Downloaded a pdf of the basics. It looks like each model has two action points (Malifaux, anyone?) that they can spend moving, shooting etc. not entirely sure on the practicalities of that. Instead of rolling per squad to see who hits/wounds etc, you have to roll for each individual model.
Twice.
Ho hum. Will see what the full rules divulge (and hope they don't charge too much for buying the seperate armylists for the one army they missed off the list due to time constraints).

The independents tend not to be driven by shareholders and are therefore more willing to give things away...

UPDATE: As Tony is willing to shell our money on a game he's never played, then I can do no less. Imperial starter box ordered today. My 'cheap skirmish' game has violently assaulted my wallet.
There's still shockingly little info of how the games play, how it differs from previous editions etc, but here's what I've managed to piece together so far -
1st Edition which was praised for its excellent and evocative game mechanics at a skirmish level (30-40 models per side - platoon sized), with lots of info on stats, different weapons, troop types etc.
The 2nd edition was done to turn a small-squad based game into a wargame on par with 40k. They streamlined a lot of the rules but removed most of the character and 'soul' of the game. The general opinion is that it still played better than 40k at the time, but with each add-on became more clunky and cumbersome.
3rd Edition Warzone (Warzone Resurrection) goes back to the principles of the 1st edition, and seems to focus again on platoon level skirmishes instead of huge 100 + games of 40k. In order to include some of the grand scope of the larger games, they now include cards which offer a strategic level of planning in the form of artillery, wargear, fog of war, random acts of god (earthquakes etc). Basically all the stuff that slowed the game down in previous editions. The company producing Resurrection are catching a lot of flack for integrating a 'deck' into a wargame, and opinion is divided. Having said that, the forums are full of people offiering a very simple way to play without cards at all, if preferred
It's beginning to look a little like Malifaux in space....
