Not forgotten but only 2 short sessions during week. Dad's taxi had a good few fares. First to make all the infantry bases brown ready for basing. Then some 30 x 30 bases arrived for the guns and officers along with some small round ones for the messengers and other for micro infantry. Today blocked in and washed the foot artillery crews then remembered to paint the gloves white - ready for basing after cutting the strips apart, touching up and painting those cross belts. I change my tactics and did the collars first - that might be the way forward. once this starter pack is finished and it is getting close to horse all the way I think I will get some Prussians for the big game. Another couple of hours today blocking in horse base colours.
On another forum some one suggested having more lighter colours in the Hussars / Light Dragoons - -so I've followed that tip.
Must start to try and do some painting in the evenings or it's going to take for ever at 2 hours on a Sunday morning.

But it all adds up. George was fussing with his dinner and just needed relentless company to keep him eating. Got the bases done on 2 models and highlighted, and painted a red skirt to finish and almost all the base colours done too. (Almost)

about 4 hours spent blocking in 6 units of heavy horse.
That is tunic, helmet, face, hands, sword, gun. trousers and saddle cloth etc. Amazing what detail you can see in natural light -- that daylight bulb needs a few friends to help me see the models as well.
I will put up a picture next week -- hopefully of a finished strip.
Then I will only have the hussars to do and officers / adjutants to finish.

I think they look fine, the only differance I would make is to to wash in dark tone ink then re-apply the base colours in small dabs this will give a lot of depth, your painting will get a lot quicker in time I now paint around 120-180 foot figs in a week and that's only a couple of hours per evening,
Look forward to seeing them all based

My method is to paint figs in base colours usually a mid tone then dark wash them reapply the mid tones on any raised area, you can stop there and add the white or detail, but I take it up a notch and add highlights to the mid tone then detail, it's actually very quick when you are used to the figure and routine. I don't use a wash as a final Finnish as this dulls the colours ,
There is a tuturial on my blog that shows this better.

I'm still plodding on, just in case you think I have stalled. The Dragoons [in red coats] are as done as I think they're ever going to be and after washing with soft tone I took perfectsix 's advice and brushed on a slightly thinned coat of red as that really got dulled down by the wash. Hope he does a little master class / demo when he does pop in as his coats must be a lot thinner than mine. The light dragoons [dark blue] and hussars [light blue] are still work in progress but are moving along - so this is W-I-P pic But I'm thinking that a lot of flank detail will be lost once based and basing is the plan for this week. Also causing the fact that I used so much PVA sticking them to painting sticks - could have got away with a small blob and maybe a 50/50 solution. So this is the batch where I learn about the models - boy and have I - never knew there was that much detail available in this scale. It is getting to the point where I need to plan the next order - mostly Brits so that I can have more or less a single force available. I will ask a nice sole to collect from Salute for me so that the P&P pennies can be spent on figures instead. Attachments:

I know I'm not posting often here, I'm also painting up some Hammering Iron vessels ready for "piggyfest" when time and light / weather permit. but this project is still going forward and my light cavalry is now blocked in and awaiting a soft tone wash, then the tunics may need brightening up - but we will have to wait and see . The infantry and heavy cavalry are now on 60 x 30 bases see you could say table top ready but I'm going to use the Baccus basing system on them, after all it did cost me enough so I had better use it. Reinforcements will have to wait a month or two as I have a couple of other bills to deal with first -- i.e. bicycle service [£500 it may seem a lot to you but it is long over due and some of the parts which have served me well for 30 years are in need of refurbishment or complete replacement] and about £100 for my plant collection - which has not over wintered very well and I have lost a couple more whilst waiting for spring to start proper. I do think that delaying / avoiding varnishing is a good idea at the moment - because I can then touch up these bits that could be better because I have had to learn about uniforms and all that sort of stuff for a period I have never gamed before. As well as trying to get my eye in for 6mm when my eyes are older than my teeth and they're pretty old as well

The end is near I've taken the final photos. I may do a little super detailing with a paint brush but on the other hand I know my abilities are limited and have so many other projects to share the love with. And to be honest I'm pleased with what I've done in a couple of hours here and there. So here they are ready for marching onto a battlefield near you. Oh I did all the officers as messengers as I think I will use Adler figures for the big men and keep a spacer slot to include messengers on their base. and now deployed on the painting table Lead by Sir - curse the mould line Hunting-Symthe and Sterling-Moss on the flank and the thin red line is advancing I have even been advancing the next project as well The USS Hartford is all but finished as I'm STILL awaiting some ratlines from the good olde US of A and inside the crews are at their guns Unfortunately the Bay Area Yards [BAY] ships will take a fair bit of work, as I not only have the resin hulls to clean up and fill but each mast is a 4 - 7 piece kit with no instructions and less chunky than Martin's models. Also i'm going to have to research each of the 5 ships I brought from BAY. The other two unpainted ships in the picture are USS Cumberland [using the Lawrence model - as it is the same class], and the bigger ship is USS Minnesota. I also have a proper Patrick Henry [kit of many parts] so no more proxying with USS Memphis

Forgot to mention that the basing set [sand, flock, glue and paints] from Baccus has plenty left and it seems that it will not run out before I have done 3 starter packs at least

AuGGGGHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111
just discovered that they sent me USS Pennsylvania instead of USS Minnesota
New order sent state-side for vessel and a couple of spare mast sets
Pity shipping = cost of model, fingers crossed that HMC&E don't also want a cut of the action

Thank you Richard -- and maybe one day we will meet the face behind the moniko of perfectsixThe Brits now have reinforcements which once painted [there goes another 3 months of my life] should provide a full sized force for a table top game except of course a little 'filling in the corners' when either a historical orbat requires something else or the Polemos random army generator rolls all 1's or 6's
