Did look at Black Tree miniatures but think they're too cheap and cheerless to blend in with the others. May still buy a few bits to check this out. Scenario 1: Isandlwana (per the BP supplement this is a withdrawal scenario, historical British defeat) the recommended forces work out as Brits 4 units of 16 + 4 officers (not really needed) = 68 foot Zulus 7 x 32 plus 3 officers = 227 foot Scenario 2: Rorke's Drift (either way this will be a close run thing unless you bribe the dice gods) Brits use 12 bases of 4 = 48 foot. Each base is a unit for this desperate rear guard action Zulus 12 warbands of 32 plus 4 officers = 388 luckly tango has 96 so I've only got 300 to paint up This and Gingindlovu use the most (and the same numbers of Zulus) I will add the other 4 scenarios once I've worked out the forces as cavalry needs to be in small units but I'm unsure what that magic number is at the moment
besides horse and guns aren't on the initial shopping list

Thats going to be a lot of work sir but enjoyable π Have watched the series on the below channel. Go to playlists and watch in south africa as its a running history and tour with some battleground tatics for mainly british but gives a good acount of Zulus as well. Good for back listening while modeling π www.youtube.com/c/britishmuzzleloaders

2 wagons and 2 field pieces. I will double up as wagons are good scenery and i doubt if the RD starter π¦ has enough even though its scenery heavy and troop light. That explains why the deluxe direct only edition has double the scenery.
Ive got 6 weeks to finish painting my Napoleonics, thankfully not too many more to do

Scenario 3: Nyezane
Get your bridgehead back across the river before the black storm washes you away
Zulus
10 units of 32 and 3 commanders = 323 foot troops
British forces a little more complicated
Brit Line 2 x 16 Natal native 2 x 16 Royal Engineers 2 x 8 Natal Pioneers 2 x 8
2 x 3 stands of mounted infantry - will need some foot as well 1 x 3 stands of hussars
2 x 7 prd guns 1 x Gattling gun
So foot = 96 foot + 12 for mounted Horse = 18
Guns as stated

Would it help if I got the natal box. I can put it on my long list to do. I am excited to get involved with this project. I have started painted the British infantry today. I got some scorched earth grass for basing along with some matching tufts from Entoyment.

I'm not going to stop you getting what you want
I've been looking (longingly) at Empress miniatures for the horse today
But my plan was to be a self contained project yet saving me having to rush and get this or that gratefully received. Because it can follow later
Still I do intend to get all and painted in 2021. Osprey books and 2 boxes of Perry Zulus + one box of Perry British order placed today for click and collect from Entrapment

I'm thinking of this as a timetable for the 6 battles in the BP supplement to be played out at the Wyverns, if done in strict historical order
No battle in first 3 months to give chance to paint stuff up
April Isandlwanda May Rorke's Drift June Nyezane September Hlobane October Khambula November Ginginiloveyou Scope for refights as well - even repeats at Ringwood and / or round houses as well
No battle planned in the Summer so that Dominic can escape to the chateau
Have got some research material - so other battles / skirmishes can be added to the list
Just need a good skirmish rule set
Anyone able to give Dominic the heads up to hang by here and take a look?

I think 5 models of married zulus.
Because i need to check out how i'm going to paint the skin. Plan is spray base coat then wash - i've been given some recipes and happy to receive more suggestions. One model for each recipe.
How i go forward has got to be quick, satisfying and realistic. 300 plus models have got to look decent without taking the whole year to paint

Still moving along with the British infantry. Taking longer than I thought. Lots of straps and kit, a bit fiddly. They are looking good though.

Hi C And P,
sorry late reply. This looks truely Zulu, if you get my Rourke's drift. I would love to join you in some bush wars.
Currently I am working (slowly) on rebasing/ painting up my 15mm ECW. I don't think I can take much more on just now as work so hectic but sounds like you are both on the case.
When nrmality returns (when) maybe think of creating a Sudanese force...I like a camel, or is it dromedaries?
Very much looking forward to next engagement.

Zulu war will probably take a while. Ecw is a good choice. Hammering is really a two player game. Also Napoleonic I will have a couple more cavalry units Lancers and Hussars. I will build them and prime them the full paint job is going to be a long haul.
