22nd January markcallow -- nothing has to be correct just representative so Seleucids pretending to be Cathergiains is fine by us The Almanac says 871 โ Battle of Basing: The West Saxons led by king รthelred I are defeated by the Danelaw Vikings at Basing. So if the idea became #On this day in history then this is an idea I know we have SAGA forces kicking around but with a little (well a lot really) licence would this be doable for FoG be it 15mm or 28mm? I'm sure I can persuade some Lord of the Rings figures to stand in but I would need the help of others to be able to fill out the forces required. Don't ask me to print off lots of paper soldiers (I do have the book) unless others have the time to cut and assemble them.

Hi Charles
I will see if i can borrow a Carthaginian army from a friend for a game
I presume you would like me to do both army lists for the game?
I would think that a 800 point game would be a good start, 600 points with Roman forces means a very small game so 800 points is better in my opinion for getting a good feel for the game
The Seleucids fought Rome many times so If I cant borrow Carthage i might field the Seleucids (great army with a bit of everything, for my two pennys worth)

markcallowThat would be most helpful as we're not really geared up to play lots of FOG at the moment without steved organising it all. My Mycenaean / Minoan Greeks has been a start / stop project for years, and BYaS is taking up all my painting time at the moment. but DON'T give scythe chariots to tango -- he only ever charges no fancy dandy flank matches from him.

No chariots for the Seleucids this time i am afraid or fancy flank marches, straight forward game for Charles and Paul to get the grips
Fancy flank marches and suicidal chariots we can keep for future games
I have 2 army lists for the Romans, one has an ally which gives them a bit more mounted or another which is dominated by foot, have you guys decided whoo is going to fight as the might of Rome yet?

Just to let you all know. The lighting in the hall is being refurbished, no overhead lights will be working this week. However the commitee have got together to supply plug in lights for tonight. I have thanked them, I thought it was better than having the night cancelled. I will be bringing an extra spot light if anybody wants to bring additional lighting do feel free. It will all be back to normal next week.

Hi all
We will be using the big hall tonight as the dog training is not going to happen. The kitchen is out of action so bring a soft drink. Please let as many members know as poss. Scaffolding is up in the main hall but we will have loads of space.

The game last night showed no matter how decent the Roman infantry is, anything can and will frequently struggle against pike blocks, especially when there are in 10s so can absorb casualties.
As i said last night, The Seleucid army is a really tough army

As i said last night, The Seleucid army is a really tough army Yep I feel the romans were very strung out and needed a killer blow on one of the flanks.

Or checker board formation to stop the pike blocks supporting each other.
the surprise for me was the companions going toe to toe and not being creamed
