So, this series of books have been released and Warlord Games for one are selling them. Anyone fancy a punt to get into a historical period quickly and cheaply?

I saw this at Entoyment. I quite fancy wars of the roses. I am already involved with the other time periods.

I quite fancy WotR as well. Hardest part is reading up on it. They all seem to be named Richard or Henry and keep changing sides!

Looks pretty cool. I could be tempted once I've got the house move sorted next month.

So, anyone fancy doing 1066/War of the Roses in paper using Kings of War Hysterical?

£13 per book - worth a punt and I can make them at work in that enforced 1/2 hour lunch break I have to take
don't mind as work has decent printers and War of the Roses could be used for Bloody Barons too - just scale down for 15mm
Do you know what size the figures are? 15, 20, 28mm

Warlord store said War of Roses SOLD OUT -- bummer, must add my 10mm collection to a list of projects to start again 1066 and ECW is in stock Happy to order - if we can get 4 copies in one go that's free postage, other wise it seems to be £5 an order flat rate postage. So chaps is it just one title or people want both? Lets all do the same one then a big battle can be got together quickly. Vote 1066 and / or ECW and lets see what we want ORtango can check availability at Entoyment and put some to one side if he can get 3 War of the Roses happy to square up latter, my copy

I will go in for 1066, but will fold like a cheap hooker getting punched in the stomach by a fat pimp named Lenny if everyone else goes for War of the Roses.

Don't think I'll get down until 7th Nov, but will give someone some money if they've got something. If not, no worries.

Purchased 1 realm of 100g paper [500 sheets] for £6.
Need to get the recommended UHU glue but for now pritstick will have to do
Printed off 4 sheets of foot -- enough to make 12 stands (all 3 deep)
Starting to assemble them at work -- could be a while before I've got a full force of my own.
Will post a piccy when the first one is finished, the book says that it becomes quicker as you get your eye in - we shall so. But it can't be any slower than if I was painting them.

just been Staples to get some UHU twist & glue £9.58 for 2 35ml pots. Going to keep one at home and the other at work - thought it was a little steep, price wise so googled once back home on e-bay for £7.56 a 90ml tube including P&P no need to guess where I'm getting the refills from, as the 2 I got would struggle to do a whole army. Speaking of armies -- could this be the big game for Bridgehead? cloth, hills, paper terrain and paper armies with a little craft area for the kids (make and keep) What says you all

Paper and glue on their way from Fleabay. Safety scissors already spotted in Min-Me's arts 'n' crafts drawer...
Not sure about putting on a paper game at a wargame event - aren't these things meant to showcase the best of the toy soldier hobby? I hardly think 'wargaming on the cheap' embraces that. Even less sure about a kiddies crafting corner - do you REALLY want to be the duty creche while wargaming dad's mooch around the venue having dropped off their sprogs? Besides, we can hardly use that as a recruiting tool given that we're in an 18+ venue...

Warning <RANT MODE ON>
We've not a well known High Street brand - selling pocket money toys at inflated prices
Wargaming should be accessible for those people whose dads don't have the wealth of Roman Arkadyevich Abramovich Others may want to put on a BIG game but I would rather show that this hobby is for every man - not so sure about the dog - and every wallet.
If everyone did this it would not be the novelty and would impact upon the traders - heck we are the minnows that deserve to have our day in the sun.
We would be telling Joe Public that you can have an army for (and hours of fun) for less than the family entry to Bridgehead - and that is not including the cost of parking at the BIC
Heck I even like the idea but happy for the committee to veto it -- then they better sort something out while I play tennis

Now children play nice I wasn't to keen on paper solders for myself but old school gaming with them actually appeals. As to the cresh I'm not 100% convinced ... also how many of us are DBS checked to work with kids at the show?

If you want involvement my personal opinion is that big is the wrong way to go. Big requires a plan. Big requires time. Big creates its own complexities. Having an 8 year old drop in and out of that is a lot harder than them droppping into a 30 mins beer and pretzels chase/skirmish/scenario
George still tells me about the game he played at beachhead but he's not normal.
I think you want a spectacular game. Or an interactive game. But I don't think you will achieve both easily. My opinion for what it's worth.

Yea I agree not a huge game! Oh the racing game was fun for all ages But what I was invisioning from Chaz's comments was something like a kitchen table top size 5'x3' with a handful of troops a side. So half an hour of fun not 2 hours. So not 20'x 6'with a huge castle with several thousand troops! Would look good but totally impractical.
