Has anyone played this? I have just got Assaut on Normandy, only because it was a bargain at the bring and buy sale. The chap bought it and never did anything with it. It will take me a while to put it together as other projects are now getting urgent. Such as finishing off Warzone then my Warmachine army. Will it be worth the effort or should it remain on the back burner.

I have it and I have Brits and Germans for Normandy. Germans and Russians for the eastern front, Germans and Brits for North Africa. But painted is only really Normandy/Arnhem. I've got enough to play but not proper armies. And lots unpainted. If you buy more be aware the warlord plastics are quite fiddly and the perry plastics are comparatively small. Exquisite but small. I've simply considered they are the youngsters next to the artizan hulking beasts.
The game runs ok, but they have just released/are releasing a v2

I am being strangely drawn to open the box and get started. A bit like being told you cannot have your pudding till you have finished your greens. I am resisting, but weakening.

Hi guys, I know this hasn't been posted on in a while, but I too have Bolt Action (BA) and would definitely be up for a few games if anyone is interested. Although to be honest I'm tempted to try out other rules sets such as Chain of Command, just for variety.
I do enjoy BA, mainly for it's simplicity, but for the purest historical gamer the rules can feel a little flat; however it's not stopped me having a good laugh with both my British and Germans.

Depends on what you playing and what terrain you are using. A beach landing will want more even on the sametable as it will be an assault. Generally I've been told you want 3x assaulters to defenders if you intend a fair game...
But an engagement would want more matched forces.
I thought 1000 points was their aim.

Yeah. Add a couple of characters and a bit of scenery. I'd make that an HQ of 4 and two sections of 8.
It's the basics. Normandy? Next time (!!!!) I come to club I'll bring you something

With Bolt Action there are points brackets very similar to 40k; in so far that a good game is around the 1000 to 1500 points mark. The starter set does give you a great starting point in so far that your twenty men can definitely be split in to two 7-man squads and a then leaves you two men to be your commander and his spare wound... I mean man, and then a sniper team. Snipers are great and can easily be made from the plastic sets.
When it comes to expanding your forces don't worry too much about armour as tanks can suck up a lot of points, although lightly armoured vehicles are brilliant, especially if they get flame throwers. Most flame thrower vehicles are banned at tournaments as they can be a bit broken, however nothing is invincible! Another great addition to any force is a mortar team and an anti-tank infantry team/gun. Both of these can make life very difficult for your opponent, and are relatively cheap.
When I play Matt next Monday I'll have my books etc with me so hopefully you can have a good look through then.

Coincidentally, if anyone is ordering stuff from Warlord Games before the end of the month could I add a pack of Bolt Action dice on to the order and then give who ever does the order a £10 off code? It expires on the 31st of July but at £5 for standard postage it's a bit steep for a free product.

Ok thanks, sounds a lot of fun. Will keep glueing the Jerries. I found the Jerries under the bed this morning. That's does appear to be the most common place to find them! In regards to your question of how much I have: British - 1 Commander/Captain 1 Artillery Spotter 1 Sniper Team 30 infantry of varying sorts including the Dad's Army chaps 1 x 25pdr gun and crew 1 x 17pdr anti-tank gun and crew 1 x Vickers HMG Team 1 x Churchill MkIV 1 x Sherman Germans - 1 Commander 1 Sniper Team 30-40 infantry roughly 1 x Tiger 1 x Pz III As you can see my Germans need a bit more added to them but they don't come out much, and when they do, they get used as the Panzer Lehr meaning they get plenty of panzerfaustes and assault rifles... but only when appropriate. My next few purchases will be a mortar for both forces, a universal carrier wasp for the brits and then an anti-tank gun for the germans and a recce vehicle of some sorts... possibly a puma or Sd.Kfz. 251/16 flammpanzerwagen for the FLAMES!

Brilliant, I have an sd kfz, not from bolt action but would do. L I also have another not yet built plastic kit. My twenty Germans could add quite nicely to yours in a battle

Got the army now assembled and primed onto the painting. Just stumbled across Konflixt 47. On the Outpost website. Really quite tempting, I feel a shiney moment approaching. Must not waver, not even played bolt action yet.
