So, seeing as Tankwreck doesn't have a points system, my next question is do we need one/want one?
I can see a few options:
1. People can research a particular formation from the Cold War like the 532nd Transylvanian Motor Rifles and model their forces on that. 2. We can use the sample organisations from the back of the rulebook as-is. 3. We can adapt a points system from GHQ/Fistful of TOWS 2 and agree a points limit.
I like the idea of taking a historical formation and modelling it, but info is decidedly thin on the ground, even for western stuff. Using the stock options from the back of the book would be the easy way out, but there is no way of knowing if these units are particularly equal as history has a way of not making equal sized pickup battles. Finally, I can bastardise a points system for review and we can go from there.
What do you want to do?

another source for the points system is WRG 1950 - 1980 odd
but don't despair I have a booklet from Tabletop games which has already worked this out dated roughly 1980 which I can lend to you on Monday.
However why not something simple like
elite brigade 10 points, Regular 7 points, militia 4 points and proportionally reduce the points cost as casualties and reinforcement (if any) happen.
But then if it is a campaign so I'm not expecting even point encounter games

Cheers for the loan Chaz.
Personally, I would prefer using the formations in the back of the TW book.
I'm not really a fan of points based games as I don't ever recall in my history lessons two heads of state sitting down and agreeing what forces they were going to beat each other up with and making sure they were equal at the start of the battle! Also, points systems can be quite arbitrary based on play-testing. If the players play the game in a different style to the designer/playtester then there's often calls of a 'broken system' or over/under pointed units and abilities. This assumes there was method in the madness when the points values were devised. If not, then all bets are off anyway!

This just in... Had a mooch around wargame vault and found a chap who's release several thousand datasheets for armies all over the world from Napoleonics to the present day (plus alternative World War 2!). Go look at Micromark Army Lists for some inspiration. The lists cost around 85p (discounted from 86p!) and come as a two page document detailing everything you need to get up and running. I didn't mind paying him a whopping £1.70 to do all the leg work for my BAOR Armoured Division plus support optionsThere's a few handy catalogues to save you browsing all 2100+ army lists. Also some very handy notes on how to use the lists. Both of these are free to download. The notes also include a rough and ready points system and morale/training levels and definitions, something that is lacking in Tankwreck, and are something I think we should take a look at. DW

currently brought these two - happy to share the soviet forces in the back of Tank wreck I can field and intend to do so. These lists require a little sorting out and some additional purchasing which is not going to be likely in January / February as that pocket money has been spent on buying both volumes of .

If we go for 1990, you can field the more modern one, and I can field some infantry with my Brit Armoured Division and some Leopard 2s if I go for a West German Panzer Brigade Need to ask other people what they want, although I suspect Simon will want to go for 1986+ so he can get some M1A1s on the table instead of vanilla M1s (which were p!ss poor by all accounts)... The Cold War was 'thawing out' by 1990, but it wouldn't be too much of a stretch of the imagination to propose the USSR being taken over by hard-liners in a coup and then kicking off with the West.
