Aside from I'm finding cool models, what guns do infantry want? They seem a lot more effective than I realised (as I thought effective range 1 meant 1 hex not line 1 of the chart
Edit: And if I pay for mechanised will I get the vehicles at that price too or do I have to buy vehicles separately? Sure it's there just can't see it. I think the answer is that at 1.6x to mechanise you get basic APCs

I chose to buy my APC's separately so I could use them for convoy or heist missions, but practically the infantry will usually ba along for the ride anyway.
Gun- wise (from memory - may not be totally accurate but gives you an idea).
Ballistic rifes do up to 15 damage, but the range is 1/2/3 (short/medium/long). Laser rifles are 2/4/6, but do half the damage (8). Machine Guns do more damage vs infantry SRM's do more damage vs armour.
You can appoint a primary and secondary weapon to tailor for opposition ( e.g Laser rifles as primary and SRMs for ant-armour work, or Ballistic rifles with machine guns for clearing buildings if infantry etc)

P.s. If you don't name every single infantryman, I will lose all respect for you.

Right I've read and reread the tech manual. I get the damage. I get the average damage per infantryman after looking at pooled primaries and pooled secondaries.
Being a detail kind of guy, that's a platoon. The platoon is say 28. 4 squads of 7. Each base represents a squad. Does a platoon have to be in a single hex? Or adjoining hexes? Where do you measure for range? If they are in some kind of armed vehicles with a weapon itself does the weapon become part of the platoon? How many to hit rolls do you make?

The platoon is one unit, so occupies the same space (hex) - hence why most platoons are represented by a single base of models, unless you are insane like you and Matt. There are specific rules for splitting a platoon into squads, in which case you're simply rolling on the cluster table for 7 men instead of 28. Platoons can split and come together during the course of the same game. On that basis, range is self explanatory - measure from the platoon or squad. As a platoon counts a s 1 unit, and each APC counts as one unit (say you have 4 for your platoon, for example), each unit fires and moves independently.
For larger games, platoons/lances of mechs and tanks tend to move/shoot as part of their dedicated formation (my Recon Lance of 4 mechs moves, your mechanised infantry platoon with APCs moves - instead of my mech moves, your APC moves etc)

I'm worried now that you have an 'Ideas Handbag' that you fill with Smarties symbolically.
Far be it from me to deny either your creativity or your sweet addiction.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE: Diablo Nova - Pirates turned merc Hired by a larger Mercenary firm on behalf of the Federated Suns, the Novas have been tasked with causing a little death and mayhem on the Taurian held world of Orkney in the ongoing boarder feuding between the two states. Choosing to split into two forces in order to divert local militia while the main group heads out to put a dent in the the local industry, what should have been a milk run in the first phase of the plan, chasing off a few unprepared militia units, quickly turned sour as the plucky militiamen simply refused to lay down and die. The mercs should have perhaps taken the hint when the very first shot of the game by the local commander's Orion cored through Cpl Leyla's cockpit, nearly killing her and forcing her Cicada into withdrawal. Things went from bad to worse from there as, despite throwing enough ordinance to level a city block, the Novas just couldn't put anyone down. After recieving a savaging in his stolen Thug and watching his long time friend get blown to pieces due to a lucky ammo bin hit on his Centurion, Captain Janus decided that the situation was unsalvagable and quit the field - harried by the vengeful militia all the way. The second phase at the industrial plant will in all likelihood now face stiffer competition due to the Captain's faliure to wipe out the garrison.

It's all that "Green" Commando's fault Though you lost two mechs and a savanna master you did savage two of the mechs and badly damage two others Great game sorry for your loss but your revenge is just round the corner Tea and biscuits?
