All the links I put on are the best that I've come across. If anyone has any more then I'd be pleased to know myself!

So tech readout tells me what it is and master unit tells me what it costs. I think I have it (well mechs at least!)

I've rolled a 9 so I've got a metric ton of c-bills and I think I understand how to spend. So where is infantry?

Stirling question. I couldn't find the set cost for infantry ANYWHERE, so I used the Tech Manual to make my own.
In short, infantry cost 2000 each to hire. The average platoon is 28 men. 28 x 2000 = 56,000. The cost of a laser rifle is 1250 x 28 = 35,000. Reloads for the weapon are 200. The rules say each trooper carries 5 realoads on average so 200 x 5 x 28 = 28,'000.
Add troops, weapons, ammo together, and you get 119,000 for the cost of a platoon if 28 men.
The Tac Ops rules go into personal body armour for each man. Eg if you want to give them balistic plate armour, add another 2000 per trooper. Each trooper is twice as hard to kill. However, it's cumbersome so the unit can't make mech swarm attacks.
How's that for detailed?!
You can also give troops secondary weapons like SRMs to kill tanks or sub machine huns to kill other infantry, or change the primary weapon to balistic rifles which have have half the range but twice the fire power.
All in the Tech Manual....

I don't know if I'm doing this right. I have rolled 90 mil I have chosen time and federated suns (mine is one of those suns) I have picked a mech at elite failed the roll picked the same mech at vet failed and got it at regular. Is that allowed? I don't have multiples of models but if I did could I try 3 elite jenners then get 1 and try for 2 regular ones? (Don't know if they are worth having but like the name...) I have spent some of my dosh but still have lots left. I'm waiting for my tech manual to work out tanks and infantry. Can I go on to ships and go back? If I go on to ships can I make any credible sense of it? Why doesn't an elite cost more to acquire? Is it because it's hard to roll? Will I have to spend more on up keeping an elite than a green? Too many questions?

You can try again with the same class of mech at a different level of experience. See previous answer re: 5 elite Atlases for examples. Re: cost. The cBills you pay is for the mech. The roll is for the likelyhood of getting an experienced pilot. When fighting battles, you use Battle Value which is dictated by experience, no cBills. The salary for experienced is higher. Re: Jenners - correct. You can go back and fill out you roster after getting ships etc.

Ok so if I get a regular atlas, Vet hunchback Elite Jenner Elite troops Elite trucks Etc When I get to a game it will all carry such a high bv that my table force will be v limited. Hadn't appreciated that . How big a bv difference do rankings make?

Hadn't appreciated that . How big a bv difference do rankings make? Not nescessarily limited - we try and fit the mission around the mechs to make it fun but challenging, but it does mean that there's more chance of being outnumbered on occasion if all your guys are elite etc. check out the master unit list link for full run down of experience. I've attached a link directly to your beloved Jenner for example (scroll to bottom of screen) - Jennyjenjenner
but to summarise BV for you as an example - (Gunnery/Piloting) Green (5/6) 752 Regular (4/5) 875 Veteran (3/4) 1207 Elite (2/3) 1592 And if you ever manager to level up to a 0/0 pilot, it would be 2449 - more than a heavy clan omnimech!

That was the magic bullet! I had this stupid table with number and number to get number but seriously wtf? Now you've given me an example it's sensible... Don't know what I'll do with that elite atlas though... ;-)
What sort of bv points do you play to?

The era we're talking about, 10,000 BV will probably be near a mixed company. Later on, you'll be luckiy it it gets you two mechs.
My total force comes to around 11,000 BV, for example, whereas Tony's comes to about 2000. So obviously in that case a straight on battle would see him annihilated, so why would he chose to fight a mission like that?
Once we rolled for missions, we both picked ones that suited our positions historically (fluff-wise) and financially. I'm minted, and have a large assortment of big but slow mechs and tanks, so I chose a defensive mission (a 15 Month Retainer contract). Tony is flat broke with a small force of weak units (2 light mechs, 2 light tanks, and his boss in the a mech that barely scrapes into the 'heavy' catagory), so he went all out and chose a high-risk/high-reward mission - a 30 Month Sabotage contract with full salvage rights. As far as BV per battle goes - we decided that there were 5 main points of interest that I need to defend to fulfill my contract, so are working on around 2000 BV of forces 'on hand' at each site. Tony then uses whatever forces he chooses to do each mission. He's got a little help in the form of a Liaison Officer in a Quickdraw, and whatever additional forces we deem fitting for the scenario (a platoon of infantry and 4 APC's in the current one, for example). Depending on how each scenario goes, I'll have access to reinforcements being ferried around in my Dropship.
Basically, we're playing to a rough guide - if I've got a slight advantage or Tony has - well that just adds to the realism. As long as it's fun and not too unbalanced, we're not fussed.
It's true what the girls say about you -it's really ok, size doesn't matter.
