Not yet dude. Looking to upsize the games and speed up the timeline for more destructive weapons. We've jumped to 3030 for now, and will be doing some random rolls to account for damage/loss and experience/money. Once we've got a few games and some new tech sorted, we'll speed up to clan invasion era.
It'll hopefully give me time to paint my Clan Snow Raven cluster as well.

Tentatively back! A few weeks ago I broke out my longstanding Capellan Pirates for a weekend game with a mate. He had an objective raid and I had a Terrorism mission which I was really looking forward to (if you can't commit mass murder in real life, have a go with make believe!).
Unfortunately he complained incessantly about how he felt that his forces 'wouldn't do that' every time he was obliged to follow the rules (seriously). When we actually got to play a game (after about SIX HOURS), he quit after turn two in a massive strop as one of his mechs got an unlucky giro hit and fell over (dude actually nearly threw he mech across the room).
It's safe to say that the whole thing put me off wargaming completely for a while, but will be now cruising for a game sometime this month hopefully.
Mange tout

Tony has been badgering and possibly mongoosing away to create more hex-based terrain, and paint up his rag-tag pirate force. It's got me inspired to break out my Outworlds Alliance House troops again to oppose him. We were fighting in the early 3000's but have fast tracked to around 3030.
On that basis, he has made some random rolls to see how his force has filled out (from its start as 3 mechs and 2 tanks!) to around a battalion. I already had an over-strength assault mech company and a full assault tank company with troop and air support, so dug into the history of the OA and discovered that their standing army is mostly made up of medium and light Davion ex-pats. To that end I've created a light cavalry company to round out by battalion.
We're technically continuing a campaign we've been fighting for about a year though, because of the way the point system works, any new players or one-off games are welcome!
Battletech is on the rise again. Oh yes....

It's a game that I dip into obsessively for 3 months at a time, burn out due to the level of detail, stick it on the shelf for half a year and then repeat.
The detail and complexity is what makes it amazing and completely unique, but it's what also makes it quite demanding. Stick with it McFly, and it shall reward you

Nice one Thinking about it must be about 1985/6 that I started good god that's over 30 years! I was getting battletechlogy magazine when I was in the fifth year at school. My mate had 1st edition box set and I played that about a year before. Just before I finished sixth form second edition came out I think.

I need some general campaign running advice.
Currently I've got an open sand-box style thing going on where people roll up their mission and employer as per Force Operations and then tie it in with whatever their opponent roll. For example I roll a Recon Raid, my opponent rolls a Scavenger mission, so we fluff the story to say that I'm there to investigate reports of a force stealing military equipment - BOOM - you have your reason to fight.
However, I've also been using a map based system for each mission, with cities, star ports etc dotted around, and using the strategic turn in Strategic Operations.
It's really cool and adds more realism as as forces can be wrong footed or out manoeuvred. Fast forces that in the fluff are dedicated raiders have more use than heavy assault only forces in certain scenarios.
My question is this - how do you make each mission relevant to ensure that a) both players are engaged and have fun doing their missions, and b) each force has reasons to engage each other.
For example, Me and Tony last played a game where we broke our units into rough lance sizes - no BV, just evened them out. We spent half the time avoiding each other, and the other half chasing each other around the map, with very little fighting going on. Also, the missions do suggest a specific BV ratio to make them playable (e.g. One force might be half the BV of another as it's trying to get away), but clearly that won't be the case if the forces are preset.
I guess what I'm saying is that the various campaign tools are all great, but don't seem to mesh together well, even though they clearly are supposed to. How do you do it?

Several ways... and depends on what players. Map based can be good but really requires a GM to ensure the running arround has purpose. Satalites drop ships etc help both sides with information. If a blind game is being played. But both sides need objectives and information otherwise it doesn't work. This is very much a small Mech company taking on a world type game. The roll mission is a quick and dirty way to do it to get a game and continue the game. It's more like Necromunda in style of campaigne Then there is a planned campaign with a story line and have a group against a GM or two opposing forces doing planed strikes against each other. It's not easy but all can work just see what works for the particular game you want to play
