Hi all. I'm trying to make a spaceport for battletech. I have a large polystyrene piece ready to go, but my question was -
How to I make it look like a concrete/stone structure? Any easy suggestions and tips would be welcome.

Don't use a spray can . It melts polystyrene. Pics? I'd use pva (white glue) and sand it you want it rougher. I'd use a large saw and a palm sander if you want it smaller/flatter.
Black emulsion, dark grey over brush light grey drybrush bone light drybrush
Paperclips sticking out for exposed rebar. Wires for conduits.
Draw a sketch first

As Phil has said but as its 6mm sawdust maybe better than sand. Also I use brown, green and black ink for staining then the drybrush Also are you going for hexed or normal tabletop ?

Hey thanks guys. it is 6mm but as it's a space port it's quite large. Hadn't thought about the hex issue. It's certainly big enough to need them - it's about the same size, if not larger, than a battletech board, so guess scorring hexes out would be in order. I'll stick a piccy up of what it looks like when I get a sec.
It's nothing complex, just a big bit of packaging that looks like a landing pad type-thing.
Cheers again for the tips!

P.s. Yeah, figured out the spray can - polystyrene issue when the bastard melted a hill.

If you absolutely positively have to spray it paint it with emulsion or pva or a mix first

Woohoo 6mm roads ahoy... Going to do a variety... What thickness of bases are you currently using as that will sort of dictate the depth of my basing material. Try not to make them all "raised roads"

Sounds like far too much effort. I'd use this and this. Of course, for the second pic, you'd have to source a '94' stencil... DW

I like playing more than building. We should get our heads together...! Whatcha looking for? I went out to the garage and whilst George built another driveway I advanced my malifaux. Only tiny bits but it unlocks the next set of jobs... Found the 9" bases. Planned the graveyard and fence. (Stuck on what I'm doing with the chapel on the hill. I have half a vision of it - just get stuck in being the important bit now... I'd bought a nice 6' stone wall to go round it but George has vetoed it. No wall. Needs a fence daddy. So it's having an ironwork set of railings instead which looks a bit nicer - if I can make it stay up...) Added the corners to my warehouse. Put the slightly warped bit under tiles to straighten it out. Rummaged through my unfinished business box and came out with about 2' square of scatter scenery that wants priming. Most productive hour in a long time. Until George says... "Daddy! Wet myself." Whilst stood amidst what was basing material and is now kiddy litter! Still he was wearing his wellies...

Mwahahahahahaha! Brilliant!
Reminds me of a conversation I had with my lad:
Him: "Daddy, the bogey hurts my nose!" Me: "Hang on, I'll get a tissue.." Him: "Don't worry, I've eated it!"
