I know it's a long way off yet but does anybody have any thoughts on what Prizes should be and the categories involved? Alas my golden goose has given out on me so it's not going to be OTT but I was thinking Vouchers for Entoyment or Actual boxes of models, books, TtB stuff etc.
Also as for categories I was thinking 1st Place, Last Place (Traditional Wooden Spoon or something), Best painted crew etc. Any other ideas?

Prizes for league ? Wont that make it a tournament, and add more competitive edge to the current league. Because there are so many Noobs in the league, wont it almost be a forgone conclusion. I for one know that i will "definately" not be at the top of the league or in the running for any of teh prizes, but i am enjoying the variation of opponents and being able to get a game. Just sayin'

If you are doing prizes the nothing for 1st 2nd or 3rd give top prize for 6th place mid for 4th and 9th.
That way you are not playing for the prize. Whilst I always play to win I would rather have a draw in my favour than table someone. The close draw is the game you remember and is the fun last roll of the dice drama... So many games I've taken to the last roll only to roll badly and give the game over!

Or though it does not affect me, well unless it puts people off coming to the club - then it would.
If people want to play a tourniquet there are enough of those around the country should you wish to seek them out.
I would rather see things done in a light hearted friendly manner anyway. A certificate or something cheap and simple like a special Wyvern themed soul token.
Why worry about prizes now if the ladder will take a year to complete because of the numbers currently signed up to play.
But a few suggestions
The most steady progressed from box to mostly/fully painted crew. A reward for keep plugging a way each and every month but consistently moving forward.
The most gracious loser as voted by 4 or more different opponents.
Mr Rock steady - a reward for most consistent [the narrowest standard deviation]. when viewing the range of results, so someone who wins big and loses even bigger would not do well compared to Mr Narrow victories and defeats or Mr Gotta Lotta losing draws.
The best Blunder / Outburst that stops everyone one else playing and gets talked about for months to come.
Hopefully everyone has signed up for fun and not fortunes.

As one of the agreed collective nouns for you Malifaux players is 'Malifools' perhaps a jester's hat for the winner? Suitably steampunk/western/horror themed, of course!! The chap who finishes the league at the bottom of the table should get a set of wooden spoons. However, the joke wouldn't be on him, as each wooden spoon could be 'spent' for extra points/bonuses in the NEXT league! It's up to you guys, but I think Chaz has a point about keeping it fun and friendly. It's what Wyverns is supposed to be all about.

I don't play competitively and I've always been about the fun game. I personally care about a prize. I'd much rather have some good games and get my models built and painted. (Actually beyond that, I want to build a beautiful playing space too)
I agree that any prize should be of a value that people will like it but not get WAAC all over it. From what I've seen there's very little angsty winning and everyone "plays nicely" and I really like that

Personally i think that when Wyrd have done the apparently "working" on campaign system, that will fit in more with the club psyche. What the League has done already is manage to get a specific system supported and recruited new players so that it is almost a "common" system, and if you brought your "malifaux" to the club, with the of-chance of a game, the chances are likely that there may be someone to play against who has also brought their malifaux , and that in its self it a wonderment IF there are some players who like the "competitve" play of tournaments, we could enter a "club" group in to national league( there must be one in the uk (i dunno), btu obviously this would need to be funded by the player themselves but with the "backing" of the club , whatever that means. I dont think we will get to many andsty playes at the club , cos someone will tell them they are being C**k im sure. Just sayin'

For me I find that I enjoy collecting painting and playing with toy soldiers. (Note winning not on that list) and being surrounded by similar minded people really encourages me on that

Thanks for the feedback guys. It's nice to get a feel for what everybody thinks might be appropriate for prizes. I really don't want the league to end up being an all out competitive thing. My aim was to get new people playing and have fun building a crew in a steady and relaxed environment whilst they learnt how to play Malifaux so with that in mind perhaps my initial thoughts were a little too much.
I think Chaz might be onto something, awards rather than prizes might be a better way to look at this and by having catagories like closest game, biggest blunder, best progressed crew etc it'll take away the competitive edge and might just be the way to go. I don't want people bringing all the filthy stuff just for a chance to reach the top of the league. I certainly wouldn't want anybody to feel they want to drop out because it's too competitive or no longer fun so I'll try to come up with some ideas to keep it more lighthearted and fun rather than turning the league into a blood bath!

I've seen tournament systems that actually reward players for good sportsmanship. Not just being friendly and polite, but along the lines of pointing out when your opponent is about to make a spectacular mistake and allowing him to recover from it. It's all a bit wooly and subjective, but as the players themselves have an input into the awarding of points they engage a lot better apparently. If you make whatever awards you settle on fun and lighthearted you'll keep within the spirit of what you seem to be going for: A fun tournament for all-comers. Or you could ignore everything I say as I'm not involved!!!
