This is my thread to show what I have for my Malifaux board and what I'm doing with it.
So lets start with what is going on in my head.
I wanted a board for Malifaux. Its intended for 3x3. So that is the size I'm building. First thoughts were to make 1x1 modules like with zone mortalis. But I didn't want to.
Then I decided that sewers fit in with Malifaux and when I went to Reading in 2013 I found a box of sewer sections. So I bought it, mentally started it, then missed my chance to do anything with them.
Someone I work with and I were trying to do a historical pirate/smugglers game too. So I had in my head something like a wildwest victorian Lymington. Docks, Sewers, Smuggling tunnels. Warehouse. Hotel. Market. Bricks. Cobbles. Docks. Water. Wooden gantry to get to boats, etc.
Then how do you make all that come together?
Well bizarrely for me I actually drew it out to scale!
I did a 1:2 scale drawing with all the sections laid out. There will be 3 1x1 modular buildings on there too and I don't recall howman 9"x9" sections. 3 or 4.
Then I started reading up on how to use foamboard to make brick walls. Saw some great tutorials and then on BOLS about a week ago there was a Bolt Action table. I've been trying to get it moving and that has really lit the fires...
So here goes:
Thats the table so far. The unglued tiles are because I am sorting out what is happening beneath them.
Thats the pictures of the sewer in first form. It needs painting and then clear silicone adding to the "water"
This is the result of the "punching" to make the foamboard into brickwork. It looks nice, but its murder on my fingers. I took a day to make a punch from a paintbrush and had to re-make it 3 times in that wall... And there were 2 walls. Then I realised I'd forgotten the stairs... Doh...
And here's my little helper. Turns out he knows his way round a modelling knife and he measures like daddy... He has loved being involved so far. (Knifes aside! I'm not too happy with him playing sharps just yet...) He told me where he wanted stairs. I added them this morning. And we put tiled floors into the catacombs under the "church" corner.
Next: Make the smugglers cave. Make a "studwork" of wood on the back of the smugglers cave wall to show the false brick wall. Sand on the cave floor. Sand on the walls. Then glue on that tile. Initially the dock was to be glued directly on the table. I'm now of the opinion that I want to be able to remove that so the board can be turned upside down and used as a full flat 3x3 board too. So I want to make s base that fits in the dock area and then glue my gantry on it. (with magnets somehow to hold it in place I think.)
Then finalise the church corner (It needs a support pillar of about 5cm).
Then with all the board sections vaguely fixed I can draw on the roads and start laying them out with the modules to sit in between. After that I will be on to making modules.
(Church; warehouse; hotel; market; alleys and houses; Grain store on stilts.) All these ideas and more going through my head.
If that comes off I want to make a wildwest chinatown type module or two to put in it.
