It was good to see v2 being played so I went to see if this is still available then found a version 3 here -> www.wrg.me.uk/WRG.net/History/wrg.html which was released in that period when my kids were babies and I had no gaming life. to quote -- note 2nd edition is a free pdf download which could swing it for many would be players I'm a fan of 2nd edition so looking to get a copy of this one. Found a copy of the 3rd edition on Amazon and brought it.

Picked up my copy off of Fleabay the other day. Tim and I intend to give it another go, and cherry pick the good bits for other systems.

KEEP Wargaming still has some - shame I did not start on e-bay - paid more to Amazon
I hope 3rd edition did NOT go the way of the last WW2 set, else I would rather stick to 2nd edition for playability

Yahoo! groups... **shudder** DW Yes - I know, still waiting for some guy to activate my account. If N = 2,000 that is a basic troop of tanks, company of infantry and a small amount of fire support and battlefield taxis. Good job N grows due to training and posture Still going to be a fair amount less than what we had out for Tankwreck. In NZ last year there was a tournament with N of 3,000 points and seasoned players had 4 hours to complete a game, so 3 hours + with N of 2,000 and learning the rules don't seem so bad. There was a series of posts about spear point dealing with infantry v infantry combat better - but I have no experience of Spear point. Oh and as a rough guide things are 10% more in this set of rules than 2nd edition but things like early Leopard tanks are cheaper, so it is just a guide for now.

1) Personally, I like the look of board setup rules, but haven't used them enough form an opinion. The rules I tried for our abortive campaign were these rules, adapted to modern Spearhead then adapted by me to Tankwreck. Of course, this was before I realised the WRG rules existed... We still haven't found the fine line between a board that allows for sweeping fire and maneuver play, but gives enough cover for it not to become a 3K turkey shoot.
2) Fully agree with the difficulties experienced by real troops and that a dice roll is a bit too abstract.
3) Even TW has a different artillery mechanic, so there must be something about artillery that is inherently different to aiming down your weapon sights and firing. The rules should reflect this.
4) Not used the morale rules much yet, so can't comment.
As it stands, we've only played a couple of games so far. These Yahoo! guys seem to be fully immersed in it and are bent on further developing the rules based on their own agendas/prejudices/experience/knowledge/preferences. Until I've got a lot more games using the original rules under my belt, I don't think I'll be amending anything for my games.
