I can just about paint 28mm black, but I find when painting 6mm vehicles in black, they look really bland and featureless. I've tried it all - drybrushing, painstaking highlighting, washes etc. but they still look poor on the table. I'm guessing I may just not be good enough to pull it off, but can anyone offer any tips (with photos would be great!)?

Try a rust paint set. I love it to give that really beat up look.

Try a rust paint set. I love it to give that really beat up look. I fear that would require even more finesse and skill. I'm already struggling to make them look ok normally - to make a tiny 6mm tank look weathered, in addition to being black, may be a step too far!

Cheers dude. Not sure what you meant by the final bit though. Do you mean instead of painting black and layering, paint it grey and use a dark wash? Wouldn't that still look grey?

I hate you. But regarding your grey wash idea- I think I see what you mean.
I want to incorporate my Deadzone Enforces as the elite power armoured troops of my force, with the Warzone Bauhause Troops being the cannon fodder. As you may remember, by Enforcers are black with red helmets and shoulders, so I was going to carry that theme through the army. I could make it so that only my elites have that scheme, but if that's the case, what would work well to complement it in both 28mm & 6mm?
I could paint them the same cammo-green with grey accessories as i did my Warzone Trenchers, that way I could amalgamate them in one army...
Or maybe they need to be different colours to represent that they're from a different place.
Or maybe they should share a common colour theme but with difference on the accessories.
On that note, do 6mm green troops tend to blur into grass flock?
Should my spaceships be the same colour, or would it be reasonable to have the navy be a different colour. If so, what works well for that scale? I found black to be pretty boring, the same as 6mm tanks.
Lots of questions....

In other news: I appear to be German by mistake. How, you ask? Well, I'll tell you - For my fleet, I picked the Full Thrust Neu Swabian League (Huns in Speeeeeeeees). For my 6mm regiment, I picked the Epic 40k Death Korpse of Krieg (WWI Germans in pointy German hats, from the planet Krieg, which is German for war. Actually I proxied actual 6mm WWI Germans because they fit so well). For my 28mm companies, I picked Warzone's Bauhaus, who are actual descendants of Germans, call themselves 'homebuilders' in German, and and also like their WWI pointy hats. All completely by accident (just cos I liked the models), but it should tie in really well with continuity on various scales Incidentally, there will be no Germans So your elites will wear black and your cheaper rougher troops in a greengrey camo?
